1.)Given the available media that we now have in the world, what are its roles and functions in a democratic society?
Given the available media that we now have in the world, it has gained more functions and roles, especially in a democratic society. One function that media has always exhibited even in the early ages of history is communication. Though communication before was done through cave paintings and through telephones, now, social media provides us with a medium wherein we are able to communicate through messaging or chatting, calling, and video calling. It has given us the ability to talk with whoever we want at any time of the day. Thus, through this, exchange of information with others is faster and more efficient.
Another significant role that media now plays is providing platforms where intellectual discourses or discussions can occur. The Philippines being a democratic country, many Filipinos use social media like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, etc. as a means of expressing their opinions or ideas freely. Social media offers the possibility of sharing one’s thoughts about any particular topic to thousands and even millions of other people all engaging in the same platform. Thus, in return, the people who see this will also comment about this topic and an exchange of ideas and information will take place. As a democratic society, this allows us to talk about the important issues happening in our country—issues like the Extra Judicial Killings, corruption, the education system, and many more.

2.)In what way does media affect your life (personal, professional, academic, social, others)?
Throughout my life, the media has always played a substantial role. Socially, I use it to communicate with my friends, classmates, and family members, sometimes even my teachers. Through social media, it has been easier to connect with others and share thoughts that are difficult to talk about in real life.
Academically, the media has always helped me with understanding my lessons and accomplishing requirements that are difficult to finish without any sort of aid. Sites such as Google, Wikipedia, Slideshare, and many more have been great mediums of learning for me, especially since sometimes, it is difficult to keep up with the discussions in class, because some teachers do them at a quick pace. The media has also provided platforms like Edmodo wherein teachers and students can interact academically outside of school. This helps me catch up easily on activities and quizzes that I have missed and allows me to acquire reading materials that are helpful in understanding my lessons.
Personally, the media has served as my personal diary or journal where I can share what happens in my life with my friends through blogging, tweeting, posting pictures on Snapchat and Instagram, etc. Often times, the media has also helped me reflect on myself as a person and an individual.
