DEFINITIONS

a.  PRINT MEDIA – media that is put on paper and uses printing press
b.  BROADCAST MEDIA – media that is shared with or delivered to a mass audience
c.  NEW MEDIA – media that has been formed in the Information Age

SYNTHESIS

1.  Describe how new technologies have led to the convergence of traditional and new media.
Technologies have allowed things done traditionally to be done digitally as well. In this sense, traditional and new media are now both able to convey information and knowledge to a wider scope of people.
2.  Explain how media convergence creates new opportunities for interaction.
Media convergence has allowed us to communicate or interact through social media, as well. This way, even if we’re far from the person we need to talk with, we can still have a way to reach him/her.
3.  Describe the use of one or two forms of new media to share knowledge and information on a current issue in society.
One example of new media that is popular today is Twitter. Twitter does not only serve as a short daily blog about the events occurring in one’s life or environment, but is also being used for intellectual discourses about important issues in the Philippines such as the topics of EJK, Marcos’s burial, same sex marriage, etc. Twitter has allowed many conversations about significant problems in our country and how we need to address or solve them.
4.  Explain how a person could be portrayed in public in the age of media and information.
In the age of media convergence, people, especially celebrities and political officials, have more opportunities to appeal to the public through social media, television, and newspapers. Through ads or online campaigns, public figures can introduce themselves to larger audiences.
