Information Literacy (Lab)

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Knowledge means a particular set of information, facts, and skills that one acquires through the process of learning. A person who has a wide scope of knowledge has the capability to understand a variety of concepts and/or topics. Also, a person who acquires knowledge and effectively spreads this to other people means that he/she has influence over other people. Knowledge is power, because one needs knowledge in order to gain the things necessary for development in mental and social aspects. Knowledge also provides us with the capability to have an influence on other people, making us have power over them. Thus, a knowledgeable person is a powerful person.

THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING CREDIT TO THE SOURCE OF ONE’S WORK
In today’s modern technology wherein the acquisition of information can be achieved at just the simple step of several clicks, the process of giving credit to the source of our work has become even more important. Giving credit to other people provides them the acknowledgement and respect that they deserve for creating their own content based off the knowledge that they have accumulated over the years. They have spent hours and hours of research and effort into their hard work, so it is only natural that we pay them recognition.

AN INFORMATION LITERATE INDIVIDUAL
According to the American Library Association, Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information." An information literate individual is a person who possesses these abilities and knows how to use them. He/she has the capability not only to identify and evaluate the information he/she receives from various sources, but also to use this information in the most effective and ethical way possible. Information literate individuals are our key to a society of awareness, intellect, and proper distribution of knowledge.
